Beka, Baba Yaga #2, is flying solo for the first time and unfortunately making a bit of a hash of things. She can’t afford to screw up though as something is causing the local selkies and merpeople to get dangerously ill. She enlists the help of a grumpy but hot fisherman, Marcus, and his father so she can dive for clues.
Mini Review Alert! Lots of things good things come in small packages like truffles, chocolate, vanilla slices, cookies and baklava. While you can’t eat this review, hopefully you will enjoy it.
Anica Revere’s date Jasper Danes turns out to be quite obnoxious and she accidentally turns him into a cat. The ancient curse just tripped off her lips and unfortunately isn’t easy to reverse. The two learn some difficult life lessons while they attempt to turn him back into a human.
Lily Revere has been lusting after the hot lawyer Griffin Taylor but although he sends out the right signals, he isn’t interested in a relationship. Lily decides to take his freewill away from him and slip a potent love potion into his drink. It works a little too well as Griffin can’t bear to be away from her. Unfortunately Lily doesn’t know if his feelings are sincere or if they are the manifestations of the love potion.
A Potion to Die For is a cozy paranormal mystery done well. Blake uses a range of tropes that fans of this genre would be familiar with and gives us an engaging heroine to boot. Carly Bell Hartwell owns a Little Shop of Potions where she mixes a range of white magic potions for her customers, boosted by a very special secret ingredient. The last thing she expected was to find lawyer Nelson Winton dead on her floor clutching one of her signature potion bottles. Dishy Sergeant Dylan Jackson (who also happens to be her ex) lends a hand along […]
I really enjoyed Blake’s latest novel as Darcy’s investigative skills continue to improve. Floracrafter Harriette Harkette hires Aunt Ve’s company As You Wish to plan a massive party for her to celebrate not only her birthday, but her success in creating the world’s first truly black rose. Everything is going swimmingly until Michael Healey, the man hired to deliver the cake, is murdered. Michael’s ghost imprints on Darcy – not in the Twilight way – and Darcy is stuck with a ghostly presence until she can work out whodunnit.
Trouble seems to follow vintage clothing shop owner and witch Lily Ivory. A fun day out at an antique jewellery fair quickly turns sinister when a fire breaks out and Griselda, the merchant Lily had patronised, is pressed to death. The method used to murder Griselda has Lily worried as it was often used in witch hunts. Her problems multiply when her estranged father becomes the number one suspect.
Darcy Merriweather, Wishcrafter extraordinaire, is embroiled in yet another mystery in Enchanted Village. I really enjoyed the first in the series but I think this one was better. Darcy works for her Aunt Ve’s concierge service which acts as a front for their wishcrafting activities. This time Darcy has been hired by Elodie Keaton to clean out the home of her packrat mother, Patrice. Darcy discovers Patrice’s body in the middle of all the mess and Elodie promptly hires her to find out why Patrice went missing and how she died.
A Witch’s Handbook of Kisses and Curses is another fun read from Ms Harper. Our witchy heroine Nola Leary has travelled from Kilcairy, Ireland to Half-Moon Hollow in order to track down four magical artefacts given to her grandfather in order to recreate a 100 year old spell. She’s on rather a tight schedule though as a rival family is desperate to claim the goods and to make matters worse her grandfather, Mr Wainwright, has hidden them somewhere in his bookshop which now belongs to Jane Jameson (heroine of another of Harper’s series). Failure to get the artefacts would […]
It Takes a Witch is an enchanting cozy paranormal mystery that centres on sisters Darcy and Harper Merriweather and their Aunt Ve. Darcy and Harper have just learned that they are spell-casters and so they have the power to grant wishes for other people. They decide to move to the touristy Enchanted Village, Salem, Massachusetts – where other witches hang out under the noses of humans – and help Aunt Ve with the family business. A murder occurs and suspicion falls on Sylar, Aunt Ve’s partner. Darcy decides to investigate even though it pulls her away from learning the […]
