This is a fairly quick little read from Adrienne Giordano involving Janet Fink, the Private Protectors’ resident geek and a hostage negotiator Gavin Sheppard. Gavin and Janet had a ‘moment’ a few weeks ago and things get a little awkward when they are both tasked with rescuing the boss’ wife (Roxann from book #1). Gavin wants to try negotiating with the kidnapper while Vic wants to storm the place. Janet is stuck in the middle trying to keep the peace.

You can tell an awful lot about a person by how they react in a high stress environment. Gavin remains calm, (fairly) confident and pretty effective as a hostage negotiator. The fact that he was unwilling to make a move on Janet because he was a boss and she was an employee showed he had a bit of integrity too.

Janet was determined that she should be respected for her geeky skills rather than sleeping with an executive so has resolved herself to lust from afar. Her tech prowess helps give Gavin a bit of an edge when it comes to negotiating Roxann’s release.

This is a short book so I’m afraid to say too much. Suffice to say, the romance and the rescue attempt make for interesting reading. It can be read by itself but I think you would appreciate the dynamics a bit more if you had read at least one other in the series.
