Rachel is convinced that her sister’s fiance, Brent, is a lying, cheating scumbag but Kristen refuses to listen to reason. A solution presents itself when Rachel finds vampire Charles feeding on a woman. She blackmails him in return for her silence, he has to help break up her sister’s relationship. Unfortunately her only plan is for him to flirt with Kristen to make her realise that there are decent men out there. Charles goes along with the plan because he thinks Brent is guilty of upsetting his sister-in-law by sending her threatening messages.

Read it for…

The depth of character given to the sisters and Charles and not for the mystery which fizzled out fairly quickly. Rachel is at the point where she is willing to do just about anything to take care of her sister since the barbed comments about Brent have had no impact. Her protective streak may not manifest in the most appealing fashion but I had to admire her perseverance. Kristen’s situation might seem simple at first glance but the reasons for her clinging on to Brent are layered, as is her desire to see Rachel happily dating. Charles has his fair share of baggage too and dealing with Brent is the easiest way to earn the respect of his brothers. With three competing motives, it was fun to see how it all played out.
