In previous books we met poor Ian who had been stuck looking the age he was when he died. He had ‘lived’ nearly 500 years but looked like a baby-faced 15 year old. Naturally this made it fairly difficult for him to score with the ladies and assert his manliness as a warrior. Ian decided to take a drug that would keep him away during the day because of the side effects – ageing one year for every day that he took it. Now he is looking for a vampire bride but Toni the mortal security guard keeps grabbing his attention.

I initially thought that Ian was being fairly superficial about his looks but the way it is written, it is clear that it has been traumatised by his condition. Even his best friends found it difficult to take him seriously as he looked like a teen. Ian is determined not to have a relationship with a mortal as he doesn’t want to have to lie about who he is. This is a refreshing change from some of the other books. His good friend Vanda helps him by creating a profile on an internet dating site but things get a little out of control.

Toni is on a mission to help her friend Sabrina and if that meant working for bloodsuckers, then so be it. Sabrina was attacked by Malcontents and made the mistake of telling the authorities who decided she must be delusional. All Toni needs to do is prove vampires are real but it isn’t as easy as she thought – especially with a drop dead gorgeous kilt wearing Scotsman hanging around.

This book delivers a cheesy (only the best cheddar) romance, tragedy, cliches and a good dollop of humour. I really enjoyed how the back story with the Malcontents continued to develop and the wider implications of the Stay-Awake drug. The romance side took a while to develop as Ian tried dating vampire women but when it did, it went into warp speed.

I’ve read this book about three times now and it still makes me chuckle. Definitely worth checking out when you’re in the mood for a light and frothy paranormal romance.
