Top Ten Tuesday: Deserted Island Characters

Top Ten Tuesday is an original meme created by The Broke and the Bookish for list addicts. The only catch (and it’s a biggie) is that you are supposed to stick to ten things. This week’s list is…

Top Ten Characters I’d Want on a Deserted Island With Me

Unfortunately the first time I read this topic I made a mistake and thought it was talking about a dessert-ed island. My initial reaction therefore was to invite characters that don’t eat food as I wouldn’t want to share ice-cream, chocolate and other lollies. A second glance corrected my error. I still think dessert-ed rather than deserted would have been cool though…just saying 🙂

Here’s my list in no particular order:

Those who could get me off the $%@# island

1. Any of Kerrilyn Sparks’ kilt wearing vampires
‘Cause if you are going to be rescued, why not do it in style?

Those who could feed and entertain me (because I’m so worth it)

2. Rue from Hunger Games (before she died)
She’s agile, could forage for safe plants and berries so we don’t get poisoned and is sweet enough that she would probably laugh at my jokes. She also hasn’t gone through the anguish that Katniss has so would be less of a party downer.

3. Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice
He’s dishy. ‘Nuff said.

4. Kitty from Gini Koch’s Katherine “Kitty” Katt series
Life is never dull with Kitty around. Her Mary-Sue qualities mean that providing I stick with her, I’m likely to survive whatever apocalypse is coming.

5. The wild dogs from Shelly Laureston’s Pride series
Everything turns into a party when they’re around. The maniacal dancing for hour after hour might initially seem like a problem but imagine Darcy trying to cope and it should bring a smile to your dial.

6. Atticus and his dog Oberon from Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid Chronicles series
I figure anyone that is as wily as Atticus could make enduring an island easy. His one-liners would keep things from getting too serious. It would be interesting to talk about all the gods/goddesses he knows and what they’ve been getting up to.

7. Hermione from J.K. Rowlings’ Harry Potter series
I’d want someone I could have an intellectual discussion with. With her brains + magic + a love of literature, we would probably have a good time. The magical tent would mean I wouldn’t have to sleep on the ground like the other plebs.

8. Zoey from R.L. Naquin’s Monster Haven series
As an empath, I think she’d be able to keep everyone calm. This is also a cheaty one as wherever Zoey goes, so does her closet monster Maurice and he is an expert muffin baker. Mmm.

9. Arcadia Bell from Jenn Bennett’s Arcadia Bell series
Having a mage who’s a demon friendly tiki bar owner might just come in handy. I haven’t exactly worked out how but I’m sure she would be awesome.

10. Peter Grant from Ben Aaronovitch’s Peter Grant series
He’s a cop so he would help maintain law and order. I think it would be cool watching him trying to nut out everyone’s skills and experiment.

NB I deliberately left out alpha males as I think they could get really tetchy by being confined and start  fighting. They might be drool-worthy but they could seriously add to your stress levels. Vampires probably wouldn’t cope with all that sun for extended periods of time so they had to go.

    • I remember the first time I read about Angus checking that all his parts transported. I snorted orange juice from my nose – most unattractive.

    • I think if I knew that I could get off the island then that would remove all sense of urgency and I would be able to enjoy the eye candy way more.

  1. Oh nice! I chose Atticus as well! Plus Hermione! Hermione would get us off faster than you could blink, but you know, maybe wait awhile as I do have some guys on the list that would be nice to see shirtless! 😉

Come see my Top Ten post when you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

    • I was sort of hoping that if option 1 failed, I could rely on Hermione’s magic tent to supply the basic necessities. For me, it would have to be chocolate.

    • The only raft guy I can think of off the top of my head is Odysseus but the whole sailing home thing didn’t quite work out for him too well 🙂
