Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme about (mostly) books and reading. Here is this week’s question:
And while we’re thinking about books converted to tv/movies. Do you ever sit and wonder who could be cast as your favourite characters? (Please feel free to give examples!) What actors do you think have done particularly excellent jobs with some of your favourite characters?
This is actually one of the harder questions to answer as I don’t watch much tv or movies any more. I’m also fairly wary of novel adaptations as they can go horribly wrong. I often look at the cover models to see how the publisher wants the characters to be imagined but it isn’t infallible as sometimes they use the wrong colour hair or even nationality.
I’ll start with the easy part of the question and that is actors that have done excellent jobs.
Hercules Poirot – David Suchet
First and foremost would have to be David Suchet who plays Hercules Poirot. Suchet has played this role since 1989 and has performed adaptations of every novel and short story apart from one! As soon as I flick open an Agatha Christie novel, it is his face that comes to mind.
Sherlock Holmes – Benedict Cumberbatch
I thoroughly enjoyed the BBC show Sherlock which featured a Cumberbatch as a modern Sherlock. Cumberbatch has that aloof and arrogant air about him which goes well with this socially awkward genius.
Now for the wish list…
Bones – James Marsters
I always pictured Bones from the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost as looking like Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It makes sense to have the actor who played Spike also play Bones.
Tragically that is all I can think of at the moment. I guess it is just as well this blog isn’t about reviewing movies or tv shows.
