2014 May Must Haves

2014 May Must Haves

Another month and another set of monthly must haves…this time with a focus primarily on the paranormal.

Sookie Stackhouse creator, Charlaine Harris is starting a new series this month but you won’t find it on my list of must haves. It took Harris a little while to hit her stride with the Sookie series so I’m going to wait until a couple of books have come out and lots of reviews have been published before dipping in.

I’m really excited about the latest Jenn Bennett even though this is Arcadia’s last outing. I’ve read and re-read these books so many times because of the delicate nuances in the characterisation, scintillating plots and captivating world building. Thankfully Bennett is temporarily moving away from urban fantasy towards historical paranormal romances as the change in pace keeps things fresh.

That is, until his high school crush strolls onboard…

Allie Mauvais rocks the boat when she fills in as pastry chef. She hasn’t seen Marc since senior year, when rumors flew that her great-great-grandmother was the one who cursed the Dumonts. After two weeks on the water, neither can deny the attraction that still burns between them. Sparrow Hill Road

Sparrow Hill Road (Ghost Stories #1) by Seanan McGuire

Release: 6 May (my review)

Blurb:
Sparrow Hill Road is the first volume in the story of Rose Marshall, who was the first victim of the man called Bobby Cross, although she was far from the last — and unlike most of them, she did not go easy into that good night. Sixty years down the line, she’s still kicking ass, taking names, and more than a little bit pissed off about the way that she died.

You want a good little ghost who’ll stay where she’s put and only haunt the people who deserve it? Go to a sleepover. You want the real story of the American ghostroads? Come and have a word with Rose.
