2013 May Must Haves

2013 May Must Haves

There are quite a few books coming out this month from authors I adore and the final of the Sookie Stackhouse series Dead Ever After by Charlaine Harris. This series has steadily got worse and I’m afraid it is going to go out with a whimper rather than a bang. You know how people slow down when they drive by a traffic accident and aren’t really sure whether to commit to find out what happened or have a really quick glimpse before their eyes are back on the road? I’m not sure whether I can bring myself to read it and have my worst fears confirmed or just read the reviews. Anyway, here are the books I am most looking forward to this month:

Mystery

Hex on the Ex

Hex on the Ex (A Mind for Murder Mystery #2) by Rochelle Staab

Release: 7 May

Blurb:When her ex-husband encounters a mysterious death omen, psychologist Liz Cooper turns to occult professor Nick Garfield for help in solving an all-too-real murder…   At a Dodgers game to celebrate her father’s birthday, Liz is forced to watch her ex—star player, Jarret—on the pitcher’s mound. To make matters worse, her former best friend, Laycee, is in the stands as well. Having betrayed her trust by having an affair with Jarret, Laycee is the last person Liz wants to see.   But when the appearance of a white pigeon—an omen of death—sets the superstitious Jarret off balance, it’s a game changer both on and off the field. Because the next morning, Laycee is found dead in Jarret’s home—and Liz is on deck as the prime suspect.

Romance

A Witchs Handbook of Kisses and Curses

A Witch’s Handbook of Kisses and Curses (Half Moon Hollow #2) by Molly Harper

Release: 28 May (my review)

Blurb:
Nola Leary would have been content to stay in Kilcairy, Ireland, healing villagers at her family’s clinic with a mix of magic and modern medicine. But a series of ill-timed omens and a deathbed promise to her grandmother have sent her on a quest to Half-Moon Hollow, Kentucky, to secure her family’s magical potency for the next generation. Her supernatural task? To unearth four artifacts hidden by her grandfather before a rival magical family beats her to it.

Complication One: Her grandfather was Mr. Wainwright and the artifacts are lost somewhere in what is now Jane Jameson’s book shop.

Complication Two: her new neighbor, Jed Trudeau, who keeps turning up half naked at the strangest times, a distraction Nola doesn’t need. And teaming up with a real-life Adonis is as dangerous as it sounds, especially when he’s got the face of an angel and the abs of a washboard—can Nola complete her mission before falling completely under his spell?

It Had to be You

It Had to Be You (Lucky Harbor #7) by Jill Shalvis

Urban Fantasy

Binding the Shadows

Binding the Shadows (Arcadia Bell #3) by Jenn Bennett

Release: 28 May (my review)

Blurb:
In the third book in this beloved and “riveting” (Romantic Times) urban fantasy series, demon-friendly tiki bar owner Arcadia Bell discovers more about her own evolving, and possibly destructive, magical abilities when her bar is the target of a demonic crime wave.

Renegade mage and bartender Arcadia Bell has had a rough year, but now the door to her already unstable world is unhinging. When a citywide crime wave erupts, Cady’s demon-friendly tiki bar is robbed by Earthbounds wielding surreal demonic abilities that just flat-out shouldn’t exist. With the help of her devilishly delicious boyfriend, Lon Butler, Cady sets out to find the people who wronged her—but her targets aren’t the only ones experiencing unnatural metamorphoses. Can Cady track down the monsters responsible before the monster inside her destroys everything—and everyone—she loves? If she survives this adventure, one thing is certain: it’s last call for life as she knows it.
