Read It, Bead It: Ice Cream and Sundae Set

Inspired by: Victoria Laurie’s Abbey Cooper, Psychic Eye. When we are first introduced to Abbey, she tells us that “People are like ice cream. Take me, for instance. You’d think that by my profession alone – professional psychic – I’d be a ringer for Nutty Coconut, but the reality is that I’m far more like vanilla – consistent, a little bland, missintg some hot fudge. The exception, of course, is my rather unique ability to predict the future…”

Notes: I initially tried making this with vanilla coloured pearls to accurately reference the book but with the small red seed bead on top, it looked pretty indecent. I decided to go with chocolate, strawberry and peppermint instead so I could wear this set to work.

Other ideas:
–  You could make double scoops
–  You could wire wrap the ice cream cones to make them dangle a bit lower than the peppermint sundaes
–  You could use copper cone bead caps instead of silver to mimic real ice cream cones

Credits: I used Cousin’s Sweet Treats Mini Earrings project instructions as a starting point for my earrings and then came up with a design for a bracelet and necklace.

Techniques you need to know:
– How to form a loop
– How to open and close a link

Chocolate Earrings Instructions

You will need:
–  2 x shepherd earring wires
–  2 x 8mm silver cone bead caps
–  2 x 8mm Deep Brown Swarovski beads
–  2 x red seed beads
–  2 x head pins
–  2 x jump rings
–  Wire cutters
–  Round Nose pliers

All you do is…
1.  Using one head pin, string on a cone bead cap, a 8mm brown bead and a red seed bead. Form a loop and trim excess wire.
2.  Open one split ring and slide on one end of the earring wire and the ice cream. Close link.
3.  Repeat STEPS 1 & 2 to make the other earring.

Strawberry Ice Cream and Peppermint Sundae Necklace Instructions

All you do is…
1.  Using one head pin, string on a cone bead cap, the 8mm powder rose bead and a red seed bead. Form a loop and trim excess wire.
2.  Using one head pin, string on a beehive bead cap, a 6mm aqua bead and a red seed bead. Form a loop and trim excess wire.
3.  Repeat STEP 2 five more times.
4.  Open the first link on the chain and slide on one end of the toggle. Close link.
5.  Open the last link on the chain and slide on the other end of the toggle. Close link.
6.  Fold the necklace in half to find your middle link.
7.  Open the middle link and slide on your pink ice cream cone. Close link.
8.  Lay out your chain flat so you add all future sundaes to the same side of the chain – this will help it sit flat.
9.  Add on the other sundaes leaving one link empty in between each one.  You want 3 sundaes on each side of the ice cream cone.

Strawberry, Chocolate and Peppermint Ice Cream Bracelet Instructions

–  15 x red seed beads
–  15 head pins
–  1 round silver toggle
–  Wire cutters

All you do is…
1.  Using one head pin, string on a cone bead cap, a 8mm powder rose bead and a red seed bead. Form a loop and trim excess wire. Repeat 3 more times.
2.  Using one head pin, string on a cone bead cap, a 8mm dark brown bead and a red seed bead. Form a loop and trim excess wire. Repeat 2 more times.
3.  Using one head pin, string on a beehive bead cap, a 6mm aqua bead and a red seed bead. Form a loop and trim excess wire. Repeat 7 times.
4.  Open the first link on the chain and slide on one end of the toggle. Close link.
5.  Open the last link on the chain and slide on the other end of the toggle. Close link.
6.  Fold the chain in half to find your middle link.
7.  Open the middle link and slide on one chocolate ice cream. Close link.
8.  Lay out your chain flat so you add all future sundaes and ice creams to the same side of the chain – this will help it sit flat.
9.  Add on the other sundaes and ice creams in the same manner. Working from the right of the middle cone, you want one peppermint sundae, one strawberry ice cream, one peppermint sundae, one chocolate ice cream, one peppermint sundae, one strawberry ice cream and one peppermint sundae.
10. Do STEP 9 in the reverse order for the left side of your bracelet.

NB I left one empty link in between my charms. Whatever you choose to do, make sure you leave a couple of links free at either end of your bracelet so the toggle will work properly.
