Read It, Bead It: Frosted Agate Set

Inspired by: Jill Shalvis’s It’s In His Kiss. Becca’s love of the ocean is summed up pretty eloquently with these lines…”You’re perfect,” she said to the Pacific Ocean, munching on the ranch-flavoured popcorn she’ bought from the pier. “So perfect that I’d marry you and have your babies, if I hadn’t just promised myself to this popcorn.”

Notes: Frosted agate is simply gorgeous but some of the beads can look a little weathered. I liked the look but if you want something that is uniform, then stay away from the natural stuff.

Other ideas:
–  You could hang a big pendant charm or a larger agate bead from the centre of the necklace
–  You could play around with different textures and maybe use silk thread to soften the agate

Techniques you need to know:
– How to open and close a link
– How to attach a crimp bead

Necklace Instructions

You will need:
–  7 x 10mm aqua frosted agate beads
–  8 x silver spacer beads
–  2 x crimp beads
–  1 x large toggle clasp
–  2 x 5 1/2 inches of silver chain
–  6-7 inches or thereabouts of tiger tail
–  2 x 6mm jump rings
–  Wire cutters
–  two types of pliers e.g. chain nose, round nose (for opening and closing links)

All you do is…
1.  Lay your agate beads, charms and spacer beads out for easy access.
2.  Slide a crimp bead onto your tiger tail, loop it around a jump ring and back through the crimp bead. Don’t crimp it just yet though.
3.  String on the beads and charms making sure that your tiger tail end is tucked into the beads as you go. As you can see, you start with a spacer bead and then alternate between them and agate beads until all are gone.
4.  Slide on a crimp bead at the end, loop it around the second jump ring and back through the crimp bead. Make sure the tiger tail is tucked into the beads nearby.
5.  Check to make sure you are happy with the stringing and then crimp both beads to secure the tiger tail in place.
6.  Open a link at an end of one of your chains and attach it to one jump ring. Close the link.
7.  Open the link at the other end of the chain and attach half the toggle. Close the link.
8.  Repeat STEPS 7 & 8 for the other side.

Bracelet Instructions

You will need:
–  9 x 10mm aqua frosted agate beads
–  16 x silver spacer beads
–  6 x marine life charms e.g. starfish, shells, seahorse, dolphin
–  2 x crimp beads
–  1 x fish style lobster clasp
–  9 inches or thereabouts of tiger tail
–  2 x 6mm jump rings
–  Wire cutters
–  two types of pliers e.g. chain nose, round nose (for opening and closing links)

All you do is…
1.  Lay your agate beads and spacer beads out for easy access.
2.  Slide a crimp bead onto your tiger tail, loop it around a jump ring and back through the crimp bead. Don’t crimp it just yet though.
3.  String on the beads and charms making sure that your tiger tail end is tucked into the beads as you go. As you can see, spacer beads flank the charms and towards each end there is only one spacer bead in between the agate. The image shown has one less agate bead to fit the intended person’s wrist but for symmetry purposes, 9 beads would would be awesome.
7.  Open the link at the other end of the chain and attach the clasp. Close the link.
