It is a barely concealed fact that I love challenges. I have an obscene number of books on my TBR pile so I signed up for Goodreads Serious Overload of Series Read-a-Thon Challenge which involves reading for 24 hours during the month of September. I also have a lot of incomplete series – I have to re-read the books in order to review them. Watching the Series and By the Author Posts at the bottom of reviews fill up is a real motivator.
Not able to spend 24 hours doin’ nuthin’ but reading? Don’t worry, most of us can’t either. So, we’re shakin’ it up a bit and allowing members to tally up their read time to equal 24 hours.
Duration: September 1-30, 2013
Rules: To make it a bit more exciting, in order for your reading time to count towards your 24, you must choose one of the options below to follow.
Reading Options (hours spent reading each sitting):
⓵ DO NOT DISTURB: One day (24h)
⓶ NOSE TO THE GRINDSTONE: Two days (12h)
⓷ WILL WORK FOR BOOKS: Three days (8h)
⓸ SLOW & STEADY: Four or more days (2-7h)
I picked Slow and Steady but I think I might have to up this to Nose to the Grindstone just to complete it. I’m going to start on 27 Sept and see how I go. You can check out my progress on Twitter.
Books Read @ 12hr mark
The Stationmaster’s Farewell by Edward Marston (historical mystery)
Fated by Benedict Jacka (urban fantasy)
Storm Front by Jim Butcher (urban fantasy)
Monster in my Closet by R.L. Naquin (urban fantasy) re-read
How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks (paranormal romance) re-read
Verdict: EPIC FAIL (I put this in bold and in capital letters so you could see how serious it is)
Excuse: I was violently ill on the last two days of this challenge and too weak to sit up let alone read books.
