Sunday Post #9

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

Friday night will go down in infamy as the Night of Computer Disasters. Bleh! Photoshop stopped working for some reason (before you ask, yes I do have a legal copy of it) and within minutes Chrome somehow and for some reason wiped all my bookmarks (which I had been lovingly collecting for years) when it tried to update. I usually back up weekly but I left my external hard drive at work so couldn’t do a system restore. They seemed to be two separate issues but because I couldn’t get Chrome to delete via the Control Panel so I could re-install (this time with the new version), I was getting increasingly frustrated. I messed with the registry to delete it which always makes me nervous.

Moral of this story – backup everything precious to you via dropbox so you can access it regularly and use a variety of malware and virus software to give you peace of mind. I use Malwarebytes, Spybot and Avast all of which are free and effective. Avast is uber cool because the language is set to Pirate rather than English and it makes me giggle.

If you are signed up for the Ho-ho-ho Read-a-thon and haven’t had a chance to try my challenge, you have just under a day to do so. Remember that my time zone is GMT +10 so the challenge might finish while it might still be the 11th in your time zone. For those who were confused about what to do, I added the lyrics of the Twelve Days of Christmas and an example of how I picked the covers.

Gender studies really interest me so Stacked’s Closer Look at the NY Times YA Best Seller List was fascinating. Female authors do not dominate this field despite public perception. While you are at it, you might like to check out Romance Novels for Feminists.

    • I hope your problem is all resolved. Once I was able to reinstall I haven’t had any problems with flash or my other plugins not working.

    • I tend to back up my stuff and then leave it at work to make sure that if my place burns down, I still have a copy. One day I’m convinced my rampant paranoia will pay off 🙂

  1. Dang, computer issues are never fun! I’m glad you have a backup, even if it wasn’t handy at the time (and hopefully it was sort of current). I would cry if I lost my bookmarks!

Loving the Christmas books – I need to check out your reviews. I also haven’t made it to your challenge yet, that’s my next stop!

    • There may or may not have been tears – I’m not going back to that dark place.

I’ve only got 2 reviews up so far because I’m slack but I have read all of the books so that has to count for something.

Ugh Computer issues suck. My laptop Big Red died on me last year and my mister got a frantic phone call of me demanding his net book lol. I hope everything is fine now 🙂
Thanks for stopping by my Sunday Post 🙂

    • I had to smile at your post – not because of your laptop problems but because you named your machine Big Red. Mine is the Blue Beast.

    • It’s actually Rumour has It but the font is so curly it’s hard to see. The series is loosely based around pet lovers and the animals themselves are larger than life.

    • I even got to the point where I was begging the machine to please put aside our petty differences around how often it should be vaccuumed and get its bytes into gear. Needless to say it had no impact.
