Starlet Brubaker, the awkward “ugly duckling” of the Hen House is all grown up now and has a successful country music career. Beckett, the brother of Starlet’s long-time crush, is fairly wary of her as he remembered her as a manipulative little creature but when her life is threatened, he can’t help but get involved.
Author: Katie Lane
Straight-laced librarian Elizabeth Murphy is mortified when she inherits Miss Hattie’s Henhouse, Texas’ infamous house of ill-repute. When she finds a naked man (Brant Cates) handcuffed to a bed at Miss Hattie’s, she realises that things aren’t so bad.
This is probably my favourite in this series because Shirlene is such a genuine and generous creature. Life seemed to be easy for her in the first two books as her wealthy husband indulged her every whim. At the end of the last novel, Make Mine a Bad Boy, he passed away though and the company he worked for went bust. Shirlene is kicked out of her beautiful mansion and with no other options, moves into a tacky trailer on the wrong side of the tracks. Her redneck neighbour Bubba Wilkes aka Billy Cates has a grudge against Bramble and […]
Lane delivers another madcap Texan romance. As usual, this novel is lots of fun but it was a little disjointed to start with – lots of different threads heading off in different directions. Beauregard Cates has been charged by Miss Millie of the Hen House no less to find Jenna Jay who abandoned Bramble in favour of New York. Sparks fly when Beau and Jenna Jay meet despite him favouring busty ladies and her being in a relationship with a deadbeat musician. Things take a decidedly unusual turn when the well-meaning citizens of Bramble decide to bring Jenna home. […]
Hope is just plain out of luck. When she failed to make it big in Hollywood, she thought she could get hitched to her backup plan, Slate. Unfortunately her identical twin sister Faith has swept him off his feet and she’s all alone. Well, not quite all alone as Colt Lomax is determined to win Hope’s heart. Hope was fairly obnoxious in Going Cowboy Crazy but that is mostly because no one ever told her ‘no’ and instead pandered to their golden girl. When we meet her in this novel however, cracks start to appear in that veneer. She […]
This novel reads a little like a soap opera with all sorts of crazy stuff happening. That isn’t a criticism as I really enjoyed watching Lane mess around with the tropes – you have to be in the mood for a quirky romance otherwise the humour will fall flat. As her mother lay dying, she confessed that Faith Aldridge actually had an identical twin sister (Hope). Faith rocks up in Bramble, Texas looking for her but gets mistaken for Hope instead. Nothing Faith can say will convince people she isn’t Hope and the kiss she gets from sexy cowboy […]
