I found this book fairly difficult to read given the references to sexual abuse. I haven’t read the first two books in the series and the blurb on the back didn’t exactly prepare me for what was to come. Madeline Barker’s father disappeared twenty years ago and her step brother has long been suspected of killing him. When her father’s car is discovered in the local quarry, it sparks new questions rather than answering old ones.
Many think Sophia DeBussi deserves whatever she gets. There are many who are jealous of her rich lifestyle and beauty. She endured years of hell with her abusive husband Skip but when he dies unexpectedly after defrauding the town, Sophia finds out just how little people think of her. Her ex Ted Dixon reluctantly agrees to hire her as his housekeeper but he is determined not to fall for her again.
Adelaide Davies had only just returned to Whiskey Creek when someone kidnapped her and dumped her in the mine she was gang-raped in fifteen years ago. Fortunately Noah Rackham was riding his bike nearby and rescues her. He can’t understand why she is so unwilling to report the crime and why she recoils from him. Adelaide never reported the crime and can’t bear to admit to Noah, the guy she used to have a crush on at school, that his twin brother was one of the men who raped her. The fact that Cody died shortly after the incident, […]
I’d previously only read Novak’s contemporary romances so I wasn’t expecting a novel that was so hard hitting. Virgil Skinner might have been sentenced for a crime he didn’t commit but he wasn’t exactly squeaky clean on the inside. Finally exonerated, he agreed to turn informer to protect his sister and her kids. He won’t grass on anyone from his former gang (The Crew) out of loyalty but he is willing to go undercover and snitch on another gang (Hell’s Fury) that is operating out of Pelican Bay prison. Surviving even a few hours in this maximum security prison […]
I got swept up in the pathos of When Summer Comes but came crashing back to earth a bit with the too neat ending. Callie is going to die if she doesn’t get a liver transplant soon. She moves into her grandparents’ house, takes a leave of absence from work and focuses on the things that really matter to her. Levi rocks up on her doorstep one night bleeding from a vicious dog attack and begging for some bandages. He’s a drifter and doesn’t want to hang around but Callie offers him shelter in return for him painting her […]
When Snow Falls gets its name from a recurring memory Cheyanne Christensen has. She’s always been the odd one out in her family with her sister Presley getting on much better with their mother Anita. Chey knows that her time to get answers from Anita is running out as her mother is dying from cancer. Her love life is also a mess as Joe, the guy she has had a crush on since she was fourteen, has finally shown interest in her. Chey can’t act on it as her best friend Eve wants him. Bad boy Dylan Amos offers […]
When Lightning Strikes is a sweet contemporary romance with a marriage of convenience between Simon, the bad boy actor and his ex-publicist Gail. Simon was one of Gail’s A-list celebrities but his drinking and behaviour got so out of control that she was forced to drop him. His agent hit back by taking away nearly all of Gail’s clients. Gail decides that the only way to save her PR firm and help Simon get custody of his child is to rebrand Simon. Simon 2.0 needed a squeaky clean image and the easiest way to create that was through marriage. […]
